“It all starts as a game,
Pristine little dresses, immaculate and neat, soon end up soaked in mud. Our garden becomes a spot just for the three of us.
Among wildflowers and secrets whispered in the ears, we play hide-and-seek, jump rope, and hopscotch, but with the loud call of our mother:
‘Girls, come inside, darkness is falling down’ the game is interrupted, and magic broken.
We vigorously shake our shoes, trying to remove with a twig, found on the ground, the tiny gravel, perfectly embedded in the soles.
We cast one last glimpse at the garden, as if to say goodbye before going back in. The last of us closes the door, leaving behind the yard, now empty and silent.”
